The Ramshai Krishi Vigyan Kendra is situated in Maynaguri Block of Jalpaiguri district.
This Krishi Vigyan Kendra originally started in the year 1983 under a Non Government Organisation named as Ramkrishna Seva Kendra. In that phase this Kendra continued it’s activity upto the year 1992. Then due to some problem this Kendra remain non-functional upto 2000.
Again, this Kendra get the approval from Indian Council of Agricultural research under West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences vide the Council letter no. 44/2000 AEI, dt. 18.06.2001, of Deputy Secretary (AE),ICAR,New Delhi.
This Krishi Vigyan Kendra is situated on Government vested land which was originally the river bed of Jaldhaka. The total area of the Campus being 154 acres of land.
The fertility status of this soil is low in compare to the soil of many areas of the district. The PH of the soil ranges between 4.9 to 5.8. The soil are characterized by low fertility as is evident by their low organic carbon content (0.33 to 0.76), nitrogen, potash (21.0 to 189.0) and phosphate (4.5 to 75.9). Leacing of salts under heavy rainfall conditions has developed varying degrees of acidity in the soil.
The potentiality of soil for higher production is obviously low. Agriculture happens to be the basic occupation of the people but paradoxically it is still tradition bound and is in the low return and low production state.
